Classroom

Hand currently has a 3.65 GPA at Marist. She was selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team in 2018 and 2019. On January 15, 2020 and February 13, 2019, she was named the MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week, which recognizes student-athletes who excel in their athletic and academic performances.

Character

Hand has been a team captain for the past two seasons. Head Coach Brian Giorgis noted that while there was an electrical shutdown in the arena over the summer, Hand helped lead the team to shoot baskets in the dark, despite not having a workout that day due to the power. Marist’s Junior Hoop Club, a members club for children who are basketball fans, hosted an Autograph Night and Pizza Party. Hand stayed later during both nights to sign autographs and interact with young fans after fulfilling her media obligations.

Community

During her time at Marist, Hand has participated in many community services ventures with Clinton Elementary School, Girl Scout Sampler, Special Olympics, Hunger Banquet, Hunger Walk, Campus Ministry Christmas donations, MAAC Gives Back Pen Pal program with local schools in Albany, NY, the Friends of Jaclyn ice cream socials, and continuous visits to the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, NY. Recently, Hand and the team partnered with VetZero, an organization raising awareness for veteran homelessness and suicide, to pack bags given out to local veterans in the community. The team also partnered with the Sports Bra Project to remove barriers in sports participation, soliciting donations of new sports bras to give to those in need.

Competition

Heading into February 2020, Hand’s presence on the Marist record books stands as follows: second all-time in points (1 of 3 to ever reach 1,500 career points), second all-time in field goals (1 of 3 to ever reach 600 career baskets), and top-five in three-pointers made, free throw percentage, and scoring average. Before the 2019-20 season, she was named to the All-MAAC Preseason First Team. She also ranks top 10 in three-point percentage and rebounds. After averaging 15.7 points per game and finishing second in Division I in free-throw percentage in the 2018-19 season, Hand was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association All-Met First Team and All-MAAC First Team. Last season, she made 62 consecutive free-throws, the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history, and became the first player in NCAA history to hold multiple streaks 50+ made free throws. In 2017-18, she was an All-MAAC First Team recipient, averaging 16.3 points per game. She was named the MBWA, ECAC, and MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2016-17 after averaging 13.7 points per game as a freshman.
