Burkhead was a First-Team Academic All-American in 2011. He carries a 3.388 cumulative grade-point average and will graduate this December in just 3 1/2 years. He is a two-time first team Academic All-conference selection.
Character
Burkhead is a great leader on field, in the locker room, in the classroom and in the community. He was the 2011 team captain and is one of most active players in local community in the history of Nebraska athletics.
Community
One of team leaders in community, Burkhead was named to Nebraska’s Brook Berringer Citizenship Team three straight years (2010, 2011, 2012). He is the winner of national Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award in 2012 ad was a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team.
Competition
Burkhead was a first-team All-Big Ten running back in 2011 and was a Doak Walker Award Semifinalist with 2,654 career rushing yards and 25 career rushing touchdowns. He has 11 career 100-yard rushing games.
