Classroom

Mauermann is a senior marketing major from Janesville, Wis., with a 2.67 cumulative grade-point average.

Character

Constantly cited by Head Coach Nate Leaman as the team’s hardest working player, Mauermann, who was an alternate captain as a junior, is serving as a senior co-captain this season. Mauermann has led a program turnaround and helped the Friars transform from a team that had eight wins the season before his freshman year into a team that won an NCAA game last season for the first time since 1991. Mauermann finished with 22 victories, the third-most in program history.

Community

Mauermann is also a team leader in the community, spearheading the squad’s involvement with Rhode Island Reading Week and the annual outdoor youth clinic where the team skates with local kids at an outside rink in downtown Providence. He has also been a part of Providence’s involvement with Team IMPACT and the season ticket holder pasta dinner at which the team serves a holiday meal.

Competition

Mauermann has played in all 117 games of his career with the Friaris (as of Oct. 20), netting 41 goals and adding 46 assists for 87 assists. He has led the Friars in scoring in each of the past three seasons—one of only two Div. I seniors to do so—including posting a career best 36 points as a junior (19-17-36). His 19 goals were the most by a Friar since Peter Fregoe scored 23 in 2002-03. A 2014 Walter Brown Award semifinalist, Mauermann earned Honorable Mention All-Hockey East honors as a junior and was named the conference’s Sportsmanship Award winner. Mauermann was also named the Hockey East Co-Defensive Forward of the Year in 2014. Last season, he had the highest plus-minus rating on the team (+20) and led the squad with five game-winning goals on the season. He was also named to the 2012 Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
