Classroom

A Dean’s List student, Garvey is a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team Member and was named to the Commissioner’s List following the 2016-17 season for finishing with the highest grade point average on the team. In addition, Garvey was named an AHCA Scholar All-America in 2017-18.

He maintains a 3.7 GPA and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national athletics honor society in April 2019. He was also nominated the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year following the 2018-19 season.

This past summer, Garvey interned at Pretium Partners in New York City with a focus on residential credit and finance. He did a consulting internship in his hometown of Oakville, Ontario, the previous summer.

Character

Garvey was selected as a captain prior to his senior season for his leadership abilities both on the ice and in the classroom. He represents the St. Lawrence Hockey program with the utmost integrity and was awarded the program’s Kevin Dougherty Memorial Scholarship, which is given to the student-athlete who exhibits inspirational leadership, exceptional determination, and athletic ability.

Community

In his sophomore season, Garvey co-founded the “Saints Hockey Experience” with classmate Carson Gicewicz, which gives kids from surrounding communities the chance to serve as honorary captains and experience game day behind the scenes with the men’s and women’s hockey teams.

Through the experience, the honorary captains have been personally invited by members of the team and are able to serve as “kid reporters,” interviewing players before the game. They even suit up in St. Lawrence jerseys to take the ice for starting lineups with the team.

To date, the program has recognized a dozen local boys and girls as honorary captains.

In addition, he immersed himself in the local community immediately upon arriving on campus as a first-year student, working with Bittersweet Farms in nearby Heuvelton, New York as part of the leadership component of his First-Year Program (FYP.)

Competition

Garvey has been a regular in the Saints’ lineup throughout his career, playing in 97 games with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists heading into his senior season. In addition, he’s consistently been one of the most reliable penalty killers.
