Classroom

Ryan is a three-time Academic All-WCHA, two-time Academic All-Big Ten and recipient of team’s Ivan B. Williamson Academic Award. He was named a UW Athletic Board Scholar in 2010-11 for the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average on his team and named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete in 2009-10.

Character

He is a second-year assistant captain and was voted by his teammates as the 2012 Fenton Kelsey, Jr. Most Competitive Player.

Community

Ryan is part of Wisconsin’s SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) and has participated in “red and white hunger fight” and “Toys for Tots” with SAAC.  He makes visits to the UW Children’s Hospital with the team and has volunteered at the Crazy Legs Classic, which is a race in the spring that raises money for UW athletic department. Ryan read to students in the inner city Detroit during the Frozen Four
and to students at local elementary as part of the Bookin’ it with Bucky program.  He has attended youth madison capitals practice at Capitol Ice Arena just outside Madison and volunteered at local hockey camps in Fond du Lac over the past few summers.  Also, he donated a jersey and stick to Croix Hurtis for cancer benefit.  Ryan was the recipient of the Community Service Award at Buckinghams, which is an annual gala night the athletic department puts on for its student athletes each spring.  He is a chi alpha sigma inductee and a student athlete of the year nominee.

Competition

Named 2010-11 Otto Breitenbach Most Improved Player Award, as voted on by his teammates. Has nine goals and 23 points in three seasons leading up to this one.  Team hits leader in 2011-12.
