Character

Head Coach Seth Tierney: “I’ve encountered many student-athletes who have truly excelled in their athletic performance, an impressive number who’ve excelled in their academic achievements, and an equally remarkable number who have made their mark in both their leadership contributions and their outstanding sportsmanship on the field. However, very rarely do I work with students who prove to be exceptional in all of these domains. It is for this reason that I whole heartedly recommend Ryan Tierney for the Senior CLASS award and why I am eager to highlight the accomplishments and inspiring characteristics of this iconic student athlete. Being highly recruited and having the opportunity to move to many other elite lacrosse programs across the country, Ryan chose to commit his academic and athletic experience to Hofstra University, the collegial family he has been devoted to from a very young age. From the age of 3, Ryan has invigorated the Hofstra family and touched a thousand hearts across our campus and within our neighborhood. The magnitude of Ryan’s “service above self” personality is ever balanced by a belief that all he has been given reaches its fullest potential when shared with those that he meets. Ryan’s commitment to self-improvement directly relates to his relentless work ethic that he applies across all facets of his life, in the classroom, on the field and now as he looks to graduate with a double major in BBA Marketing and Entrepreneurship he is preparing himself for a career in commercial real estate.”

Community

Ryan has participated in the Tunnel to Towers run every year while being at Hofstra. He ran a 5K that represented the run that firefighter Stephen Siller made to help those affected 9/11. Ryan has worked with a group of young adults and adults with disabilities by practicing small drills and techniques for Campus Connections. He has been involved with them almost every semester on campus. Ryan helped all first year students move into their dorm rooms on campus move in day. Volunteering with Viscardi Center Wheelchair Basketball, Ryan and his teammates played wheelchair basketball with members of the organization. Ryan also played lacrosse and spent time with special needs children on the beach with Surfer’s Healer. Volunteering with Christmas Holiday Magic Party, Ryan helped wrap 800 gifts and handed them out, while dressed up in costumes, to help bring some holiday spirit for the children. Ryan has assisted with the HEADstrong Foundation Tournament every fall at Hofstra.
