Lorenz will serve as one of Notre Dame’s co-captains during the 2011-12 season.  He is the lone senior on a Notre Dame defense that features one junior, four sophomores and two freshmen.  He is one of the most respected players on the Irish roster not only among his peers but by the coaching staff and administrators as well.

Community

Lorenz will oversee the Notre Dame hockey team’s community service efforts this season.  He also is the hockey team’s liaison to Notre Dame’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  With SAAC, Lorenz is the committee’s liaison with Notre Dame’s Monogram Club.  As for community service activities, the Irish hockey team has participated in such charity events as the Junior Diabetes Walk and a Kids Fighting Obesity event.  The team is in the process of adopting a three-year old with lymphoma and is setting up a program with Life Work’s Dream Teams that will visit area schools to talk to kids about setting goals and striving for their dreams.  The hockey team is also involved with area youth hockey groups, working with various age groups during the season.

Competition

Lorenz is a three-time monogram winner for the Irish and was a member of the 2010-11 team that advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn., last April.  As a junior last season, Lorenz had the best year of his career, scoring four goals with 11 assists for 15 points in 44 games.  He had one short-handed goal and two game winners while being +33 on the year.  Following the season, he was named the CCHA’s Defensive Defenseman of the Year and was the winner of Notre Dame’s William Donald Nyrop Award as the team’s top defensive player.  For his career, Lorenz has played in 118 games with six goals and 15 assists for 21 points.
