Sierra Smith holds a current GPA of 3.79 in the business management major with plans to graduate in April. She is a three-time All-WAC Academic Team selection (2016-18), and she helped the GCU softball team earn the top GPA in the nation in 2016 and 2018.

Character

Smith is a great leader on and off the field, as well as in the classroom. She has a great work ethic and is fully committed to both her personal and team goals. Sierra maintains a positive attitude through adversity and is passionate about softball and helping her team succeed.

Community

Smith volunteered for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s 5K run in October of 2016, 2017 and 2018. She attended a GCU softball trip to Rocky Point, Mexico, to build houses for families in 2016 and 2017. She volunteered at UMOM New Day Center to help run a Winter Wonderland Festival in 2018, while also volunteering at the Miracle League of Arizona to help coach and cheer for people with disabilities who were playing baseball. Smith currently works for a non-profit organization called Sons of Arizona that benefits local charities that support children.

Competition

Smith led the team in batting average (.392) in 2018 and held a 20-game hitting streak as a junior. She broke or tied four WAC Tournament records in 2018, including most hits, most doubles, most doubles in a game and most RBIs. In 2018, Sierra was named second-team All-Region for the West Region and earned All-WAC Tournament team honors. She is a two-time WAC Hitter of the Week and was named to the All-WAC First Team in 2017. As of nomination time, she had played and started in every single game of the last three seasons and was ranked nationally in multiple categories throughout last season as a junior.
