Spencer Stastney

Stastney carries a 3.56 GPA as a double major at Notre Dame. He is studying both finance and film, television, and theatre.

He has been named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team each of the last two seasons, earning the distinction every year eligible.


Stastney, a defenseman, was named one of Notre Dame’s alternate captains last season.

He has helped lead a new defenseman crops that includes three freshman and two graduate transfers.


Stastney helps lead the Fighting Irish in many of their community service initiatives.

He participates in the Fighting Irish Fight for Life program, as well as various food drives and additional student welfare and development programming through the athletics department’s GLD center.


Stastney, who hails from Mequon, Wisconsin, was selected by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (131st) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He is a leader on the Irish blue line and has skated in 112 career games. Stastney has recorded nine goals and 31 assists for a total of 30 points throughout his career.

He skated in all 29 games last season while scoring a career-high five goals and adding seven assists. His mark of five goals tied for the most by a Big Ten defenseman and he was named to the 2021 All-Big Ten Second Team for his efforts.
