Character

Alvelo serves as a leader on the team. Head Coach Heather Tarr had this to say regarding Alvelo’s character: “Moving across the country more than 2,000 miles from your hometown says a lot about a person. To have the confidence to leave your family and all that you know to come to a place where you’re challenged every day to be better, we are really proud to have had Taran here for the past four years. We have enjoyed watching Taran learn, grow and develop here at Washington. She has become a prominent role model in the Seattle community, spending many of her nights teaching pitching lessons to the local softball players. We are proud to say she will graduate from UW with her degree in less than four years. She has competed for the Puerto Rican National team each summer while she has been here in addition to leading us to two top-three finishes in the Women’s College World Series.”

Community

Alvelo has worked various youth camps and made multiple school appearances during her time at Washington.

Alvelo was named to the 2019 USA Softball Player of the Year watch list. In 2018, she was named to the NFCA All-American Second Team. Her NFCA All-Region honors include first team in 2018 and second team in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, Alvelo was named the Pac-12 Co-Freshman of the Year.
