Classroom

Trey Flowers excels in the classroom as the standout defensive end will graduate early with his degree in Economics this December. His GPA is over 3.0 and he is one of the most academically successful student-athletes on the football team.

Flowers’ efforts in the classroom have earned him academic recognition each year at Arkansas, as he was named to the Razorback Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2012 and 2013.

His work in the classroom is even more impressive considering the difficulty of his classes. Flowers is enrolled in the Sam W. Walton College of Business, a Top 30 business college according to U.S. News & World Report.

Flowers’ ability to learn quickly and commit himself to his studies during his time as a student-athlete at Arkansas shows how productive he will be once his playing career is over.

Character

Trey Flowers has played with a chip on his shoulder throughout his entire career. Growing up in the backyard of Auburn and Alabama, Flowers was very familiar with the SEC. But after he finished his high school career, the Huntsville, Ala. native had just one scholarship offer from an SEC school - Arkansas.

Flowers took that chip and turned it into one of the most successful careers a defensive lineman has ever had at Arkansas. But it doesn’t just stop on the field. Flowers has also been a tremendous asset to the Razorback family off the field.

He is a leader by example. The senior admittedly doesn’t enjoy talking much, but knows how inspired his younger teammates can be by watching him both on and off the field. His leadership and demeanor was recognized by the coaching staff over the summer as Coach Bielema selected Flowers as one of Arkansas’ three representatives at SEC Media Day.

The Razorback football players also respect Flowers and look to him for inspiration. His peers elected him as one of the team captains prior to the 2014 season.

The quiet kid from Huntsville has consistently set the example for everyone in the Arkansas football program and embodies every characteristic Coach Bielema wants in the Razorback family.

Community

Trey Flowers is also active in the Northwest Arkansas community, helping local citizens who are less fortunate than him.

Shortly following the 2013 season, Flowers joined a few of his teammates to give back to the underprivileged youth of Northwest Arkansas. On Martin Luther King Day, Flowers gave talks about leadership and the importance of education.

In addition to guiding the children with his words, Flowers did what he so often does around his teammates - led with his actions. The defensive end played basketball and volleyball with the kids and even partook in face painting to give the kids a safe haven to have a good time and stay out of trouble.

Flowers enjoys helping others and sets a great example for those in the Northwest Arkansas community.

Competition

On the field, Trey Flowers is one of the best defensive players in the nation. The senior earned All-SEC Second Team honors from the conference’s coaches in 2013 and collected numerous All-SEC recognition last year. Flowers earned Honorable Mention Defensive Lineman of the Week honors from the CFPA after recording seven tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and a sack against Florida. He also earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week recognition after he opened the season with two sacks and a forced fumble in a win over Louisiana.

Flowers enters 2014 already tied for 11th on Arkansas’ career tackles for loss list and tied for 16th on the school’s career sacks list. The Huntsville, Ala. native was named to the preseason watch lists for the Lombardi Award, Nagurski Trophy and Bednarik Award. He also earned preseason First-Team All-SEC honors from Phil Steele and the Birmingham News.

Throughout his career, Flowers has been a force on the Razorbacks’ defensive line. He has recorded 122 tackles, 32.0 for loss, 12 sacks, 17 QB hurries, three forced fumbles, seven pass breakups and one interception. The standout defensive end has played 36 games over the past three seasons, missing just one contest in his career.
