Character

Tate was the only Bowling Green player to twice be named a captain on special teams during the 2014 season. BGSU names captains game by game, and Tate served in the role in the season opener at WKU and in the MAC Championships vs. NIU.

Community

Tate has tirelessly served his community on campus, in his hometown and also abroad during his career as a Falcon. During the summer of 2014 Tate went on a mission trip with Champions in Action, in which he helped run a soccer camp for underprivileged youth in Guatemala. Tate served as a leader in BGSU’s chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for three years and also has given of his time to organizations and activities such as Operation Christmas Child, landscaping for local elementary schools during the summer, and helping with freshman move-in at BGSU.

Competition

Tate has been named MAC Player of the Week four times during his career and earned third-team All-MAC honors following the 2014 season. He set the school record in 2014 with 23 field goals made and has made 48 field goals during his career—the most in school history. All the more impressive, Tate earned these school records in just three seasons surpassing current Pittsburgh Steelers placekicker and former BGSU student-athlete Shaun Suisham. In 37 games, Tate had made 48 field goals and 109 extra points and was named to the 2015 watch list for the Lou Groza Award.
