Character
Bongiovanni suffered what had seemed to be a season-ending injury in his junior season last December. Participating in extensive rehabilitation and exhibiting a dedication to his recovery, he was able to return to action in late March for the ECAC Hockey Championship Game. Bongiovanni ended up scoring the goal-ahead goal for the Bobcats.
He has since been unanimously voted as a team captain by his teammates - one of just a handful of Quinnipiac captains to earn that honor unanimously.
Community
Bongiovanni has been an integral member of the the Hamden community and the surrounding areas.
He participates with his teammates on school visits, such as the Green Acres Elementary School. Bongiovanni also led a group of student-athletes at a station at Quinnipiac’s Boo Bash for three consecutive years.
In addition, Bongiovanni has volunteered for multiple events on campus through Quinnipiac’s Q-Mmunity Service program.
Competition
At the conclusion of the regular season, Bongiovanni has recorded 86 points in 116 career games. His numbers have been slightly abbreviated due to last season’s injury but his statistics are still strong enough to rank inside the top 10 in the ECAC in three of four seasons.
He ranks third in Quinnipiac’s DI history with 13 game-winning goals, including five this season (third in NCAA).
