OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (May 24, 2014) – All-American midfielder Tom Schreiber from Princeton has been selected as the 2014 Senior CLASS Award® winner in lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

“It is an honor to be selected for the Senior CLASS Award among such an impressive group of candidates,” Schreiber said. “The award is a great reminder of the importance of being a student-athlete both on and off the field. I am thankful for the selection and truly appreciate what the award embodies.”

Schreiber will graduate next month with a degree in history. The two-time captain spent two summers in Uganda where he promoted education, economic independence and development. During his time there, he taught English and math to youth, coached a university lacrosse team and raised money to build a primary school. Back home in his own community, Schreiber is active in several foundations to help youth and raise funds for medical research.

“Tom represents everything that is right about college athletics.  He has worked diligently in the classroom to earn his Princeton degree in history. In addition to his success as a player, Tom has also served as a two-time captain and has been exceptional leader for us,” head coach Chris Bates said. “What really makes him unique, though, is his humble nature and sincere desire and willingness to serve others. Tom is a special young man, and the entire Princeton community is very proud of him.”

Schreiber ended his career as Princeton’s career leader in goals, assists and points scored for a midfielder. He led the Tigers in scoring all four years. He was an All-Ivy League selection every year and is a three-time All-American. He was also named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy for the second consecutive year.

“Tom Schreiber excelled at a high level competitively from the minute he got on campus at Princeton,” said Erik Miner, executive director for the Senior CLASS Award. “His tireless efforts on behalf of youth in Uganda and in his own community were equally impressive throughout his career.”
