Albert Owens graduated in three years with a bachelor’s degree in history. He earned the Most Outstanding History Senior Paper, Outstanding History Major and Overall Outstanding Student for the history, humanities, government, international community development, liberal arts studies and social studies majors. Owens also earned the Lorne Liechty (ORU Alumni) Award, given to the most outstanding student in the history, humanities, government department as voted on by the faculty. Owens is also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honors society.

Character

Owens served as an intern for congressman Jim Bridenstine while working on his undergraduate work. He has spoken at athletic chapel at ORU multiple times and has been an ORU representative for media interviews and other speaking engagements on a number of occasions throughout his career.

Community

During his career, Owens has volunteered at McClure Elementary School, helped with fall and spring outreach events, and taken a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Owens has also visited the Children’s Hospital in Tulsa.

Competition

Owens was a 2017-18 preseason first team all-conference selection. He is seventh in ORU history with 110 career blocks and just 40 points away from 1,000 in his career. He was a 2016-17 All-Summit League Honorable Mention selection and a member of the DI-AAA ADA Scholar-Athlete Team. Owens finished fifth in the Summit League in scoring (17.4 ppg), third in blocks (37), and 13th in rebounding (5.6 rpg). He averaged 20.1 points per game in league play with 10 20-point performances. He had 23 points with eight rebounds against No. 10 Creighton.
