Andrew Gottfried has earned a 3.90 cumulative GPA over his four years at High Point University. He’s been named to the dean’s list six semesters, a Millis-Scholar athlete in seven semesters and has earned Big South All-Academic honors for the previous two years.

Gottfried has been nominated as the team captain for the 2019 season. A leader both on and off the field, Gottfried serves as the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at High Point and has had the opportunity to attend the Big South SAAC Conference each of the last two years.

Gottfried has participated in multiple community service events, volunteering at the Miracle League All-Star game for the past three years, a program that is dedicated to sharing the game of baseball with disabled children of all ages. He has also participated in the Panther Litter Pounce in an effort to dispose of litter in the High Point area. During last year’s Thanksgiving food drive, he volunteered to sign people up to donate and even delivered food.

Gottfried is on the leadership team for Campus Outreach (Christian ministry on campus) and helps to facilitate Campus Outreach meetings every Monday night, while also spending time as a tutor in managerial accounting. He regularly participates in the Salvation Army’s ‘Stuff a Stocking’ campaign and has also dedicated time volunteering at the Pennybyrn Retirement Home.

With 16 wins over the course of his career, Gottfried ranks ninth in Panther baseball history, while his 2.80 K/BB average sits as high as fifth all-time. A two-time Big South All-Conference selection, Gottfried was the only non-senior to earn first-team accolades as a starting pitcher in 2018. He was named to the second-team in 2016.

Gottfried struck out a career-high 72 batters as a junior, while holding an ERA of 3.28. A regular part of the Panthers’ weekend rotation since arriving in 2016, Gottfried’s career ERA levels out at 3.22. He returned as HPU’s ace in 2019.
