Shim has one of the highest GPA’s on the team (3.66), while majoring in physical education, while also pursuing a minor in business. She has been a Dean’s List recipient four times, including in the fall of 2012, when the senior earned a perfect 4.0.

Character

Shim was selfless in adjusting to a new position as a junior due to unforeseeable injuries during the preseason. With that, Shim was able to adapt and led the Panthers in goals and finished in the top 10 for scoring, too. With one of the highest GPA’s on the team, Shim helps keep all players accountable in the classroom. In a program that is a two-time community service winner, Shim has always finished as one of the highest individuals in community service.

Community

Shim is a two-time recipient of the Dr. Paul D. Gallagher Community Service Award, which is given annually to FIU’s athletic team with the most accumulated community service hours during the academic year. During her time with FIU, she has accumulated over 125 hours of community service, including a 63-hour-plus season in 2013. Highlighted events for Shim include seven hours feeding the homeless, seven hours at the Autism Awareness Festival and eight hours with the Special Olympics. Shim has donated her time across the state of Florida, including numerous community services in her home town of Jacksonville. There she has assisted with the City Rescue Mission and with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office.

Competition

The Jacksonville, Fla., native enters the 2014 slate ranked No. 11 all-time in FIU for scoring with 15 goals and 40 points. A 2014 Preseason C-USA All-Conference Team member, Shim led the Panthers in goals a season ago and also finished in the top 10 in the league in goals scored (8), while accumulating two, two-goal games, which boosts her career total to three. She led the Panthers in game-winning goals (3) and points (17) as a junior last season. For her efforts, she was named to the Conference USA second team squad, in addition to the C-USA All-Academic team. Her career got off to a hot start, as the then-freshman was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2011, as well as a Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference member. A team that made it to the NCAA Tournament, Shim was also named to the All-ABC Tournament team. She tied for the team-lead in goals and was second in points.
