Brittney Vansway has not only excelled on the field but also in the classroom, as she is a former WAC All-Academic Team honoree. The Wolverine senior, who is majoring in business management with an emphasis in general business, holds a 3.15 cumulative GPA and is set to graduate with her bachelor’s of science from Utah Valley this spring. Vansway has always prided herself on working just as hard on her classwork as she has on the playing field. She has a drive and desire to be the very best at whatever she is working on, including her coursework, and is very grateful for all the opportunities she has been able to enjoy as a student-athlete.

Character

A true leader on the team, Vansway has led by example for her entire career. She has a strong work ethic and is very dependable for those around her, especially her teammates. She cares about her team and always has been able to stay positive even in tough situations. A hard worker on and off the field, Vansway is coachable and believes that she and her team can always improve.

Community

Vansway is a big component of community involvement and truly enjoys serving others. During her time at Utah Valley she has enjoyed volunteering at numerous places including homeless shelters, food banks, animal shelters and nursing homes. She also has personally thanked numerous first responders (police, firefighters, EMTs, etc.) for their tireless work in keeping the community safe. Vansway understands the importance of helping those in need and truly enjoys giving back to her community.

Competition

A three-time all-conference performer during her career at Utah Valley, Vansway has been a mainstay in the lineup since her arrival in Orem as she has played and started in all 162 games over her previous three seasons. The Irvine, California, native holds a career .310 batting average and is coming off of arguably her best year in which she led the team with a .340 batting average, a .605 slugging percentage, 55 hits, nine home runs, 16 doubles, 41 runs batted in and 98 total bases. She did all of this while posting a solid .966 fielding percentage and playing the majority of the season at the hot corner of third base. A school record holder in double plays turned with 43, Vansway is closing in on numerous Utah Valley records including most assists, doubles, RBIs, hits and total bases. After earning second-team All-WAC honors as a freshman, Vansway has since been named first-team All-WAC in each of the past two seasons. She also was in the running for the WAC Player of the Year in 2016 and named to the league’s all-tournament team that season. As a freshman in 2014, Vansway helped lead her Wolverines to their first WAC Tournament title and the program’s inaugural bid to the NCAA Tournament and a date against the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in the Eugene Regional. Vansway, who was recently named Preseason All-WAC, is primed for a strong senior campaign in 2017.
