Cydnee Sanders is a fantastic student-athlete. She was last season’s Patriot League Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete, while maintaining a 3.61 GPA as a double major in anthropology and sociology with a minor in classics. She’s been on the Dean’s List for all seven semesters and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all three years. Sanders has participated in the Thebes Synergasia Excavation Project in Thebes, Greece, as Co-Director of Apothiki and a worker in the field, overseeing the washing and organizing of pottery and other artifacts and digging in trenches on the site.

Character

Sanders is the Bucknell team captain and the team representative for the Bison Leadership Academy. She is a facilitator for Common Ground, leading a five-day retreat to equip leaders with the tools to actively and thoughtfully promote respect and understanding of others in their communities. She also is a member of the eight-player Softball Leadership Council, a group that meets weekly to build leadership skills specifically for the team.

Community

Sanders has worked with Community Harvest, where she would help prepare a hot meal for those who are food insecure. As a member of the softball team, she has participated in efforts run by the Lewisburg Food Bank, as well as the planning of Bucknell’s Community Day event that allowed members of the Lewisburg community to come to campus and spend a day with the Bison sports teams.

Competition

In her career, Sanders has received two First-Team All-Patriot League honors and has been named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team. She was third in the nation in batting average last season (.482) and led the Patriot League in batting average by 70 points. She was a member of the Patriot League All-Tournament Team and prior to this season was a Preseason All-Patriot League honoree.
