Escobedo had a 3.12 during the Fall 2013 semester as she pursues two degrees in both Special Education and Family and Human Development. Has been a member of the Sun Devil Athletic Scholar-Baller program during all seven semester of university to date, awarded to student-athletes who maintain over a 3.00 GPA each semester. She has posted a 3.25 cumulative GPA during her time at ASU. Upon graduation, Escobedo hopes to continue playing for some time before attending cosmetology school and teaching while providing softball lessons following her playing career. She was named the Student-Athlete of the Year by the Stylos Organization in 2012 and has been on the Pac-12 All-Academic team several times.

Character

With the recent coaching change from Clint Myers to current coach Craig Nicholson, Escobedo lost a very close relationship with the coach that brought her to Arizona State and made her so successful in her first three years. Upon Nicholson’s arrival, Escobedo took it upon herself to be a senior leader for the program and buy in the the coaching change and help to make sure her teammates were on board as well.  She is a member of the team’s leadership group, representing the seniors. Is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been a member during all four years of her time at ASU. Despite the rigors of being a competitive Division I student-athlete, Escobedo puts much of her time into pursuing her TWO degrees and spends one day a week at a middle school for a semester as a teaching assistant while also putting together her own lesson plans and working with students one-on-one.

Community

Escobedo been among the athletic department’s most active members of the community during her time at ASU. She has worked with the Race With Cure each year she has been enrolled, as well as the Fantasy Flight program for three seasons, which aims to provide underprivileged children a chance to enjoy a Christmas when they might not other otherwise be able to.  Escobedo has travelled to numerous schools, traveling as far as Casa Grande to discuss with young women and their moms about the importance of sports and providing support to continue with sports in their life. She was the Grand Marshall of the Tolleson Parade in October 2013. She has donated much of her time to the Salvation Army, where she has worked with donating food to those in need. In 2013, she worked with Smiles for Special Needs, working habilitation goals and respite with children and adults from ages 2-25. As a freshman, she worked at the Scottsdale Hyperbaric Medicine where she was responsible for patient comfort and charting while in treatment.

Competition

Escobedo was the winning pitcher at the 2011 Women’s College World Series, completing a year that saw her go 37-3 with 324 strikeouts and an exceptional 1.51 ERA while limiting opponents to an average of just .173.  Escobedo has taken the Sun Devils to three straight WCWS appearances and has a career ERA of 1.95 with a 111-23 career record. An All-American in 2011 and 2013, Escobedo now has 1,159 strikeouts in her career – a total that ranks 42nd in NCAA history and eighth in Pac-12 history.  She is 20-6 on the season with 273 strikeouts – second in the nation - with 10 complete game shutouts and a 7:1 strikeout:walk ratio and is just seven wins shy of setting the ASU school record for career victories.  Escobedo has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week on three occasions this season and has been the NFCA and USA Softball National Player of the Week once.
