Jess Bird owns a 3.48 GPA as a nursing major with a minor in health administration and policies. She has been named to the Creighton Dean’s List each of the last four semesters and named to the Big EAST All-Academic Team in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Character
Bird was voted a team captain and has helped the team to back-to-back Big EAST Conference regular-season and tournament titles. She aspires to be a surgical nurse after volleyball.
Community
Bird has worked the Bluejay Jamboree and Night Out With the Jays, and has made visits to West Bay Elementary, Fullerton School, a local children’s hospital and King Science Middle School. She also has met with cancer patients and helped with the Salvation Army, an ABIDE house demolition and Read to Omaha, and taken a service trip to Nicaragua.
Competition
Bird was preseason All-Big EAST in 2016 and preseason Big EAST Player of the Year in 2015. She was named 2015 Big EAST Tournament MVP, second-team All-Big EAST as a junior in 2015 and first-team All-Big EAST as a sophomore. Bird entered her senior year leading the team in career kills (878) and digs (also 878).
