Classroom

Bernhardt was a USILA Scholar All-American and an All-ACC Academic Team selection in 2012 with a 3.5 GPA. He is majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice and will graduate in May 2013.

Character

Bernhardt has demonstrated good leadership throughout his time at Maryland. For the past three years he has been a part of Maryland’s Student Athletic Advisory Council. He is a two-time team captain, which is voted on by teammates and coaches.

Community

Bernhardt is an active member of the community both in College Park at Maryland and at home in Longwood, Fla. He has served as a mentor in the Big Brother Program at Hyattsville Elementary School. He has also volunteered at several clinics, including a “Train With The Terps” day with Prince Georges County school kids and the Charm City Lacrosse Clinic in Baltimore. Bernhardt has also served as a volunteer football coach for the Jr. Pop Warner league in Altamonte, Fla.

Competition

A 2012 second team All-America selection, Bernhardt has been a key member of the Terrapins for the past three years, helping the Terps reach the NCAA championship game in 2011 and 2012 and win the program’s first ACC championship since 2005. He was a repeat selection to the All-ACC squad in 2013 and was the recipient of the conference’s first Defensive Player of the Year award in 2012. He has played in 65 games during his career with 10 goals and 10 assists as a long-stick midfielder. This season Bernhardt leads the team with 20 caused turnovers and is third on the squad with 50 groundballs. For his career he has amassed 188 groundballs and ranks ninth on Maryland’s all-time list.
