Classroom

Josh Walburn is on track to graduate in the spring of 2011 with a degree in sociology. Motivated by a summer visit to a law office in Hong Kong, Walburn plans to enter law school after graduation. Walburn’s junior paper, a Princeton requirement, was written on racism in the labor markets.

Character

Walburn maintains a job during the academic year, working on campus at Firestone Library and answering questions regarding Princeton’s 15 on-campus libraries. Walburn continued to work in the library this summer. In addition to his job, Walburn was a member of the Central Jersey Spartans, an amateur team in the USL Premier Development League. In his free time, Walburn plays basketball and squash.

Community

One of Walburn’s many community service efforts is reading to children at the Princeton Public Library. He also has assisted in the soccer segment of Communiversity, an annual cultural event in the community. Walburn took the lead on the Teams for Toys program for the men’s soccer team as they collected and distributed toys for kids the last two Christmas holidays and he coached high-school aged kids during the summer as well. In June, Walburn volunteered to help setup, organize and assist the staff while the U.S. Men’s National Team was at Princeton for its pre-World Cup Training Camp. Walburn helped with security, setting up press conferences, etc.

Competition

The versatile Walburn played several different positions in 2009, including center back, midfield and wide back. Despite shuffling around, he was easy to find on a number of postseason lists, including first-team All-Ivy League, second-team NSCAA All-Region and first-team Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star. Walburn registered six goals and five assists.
