Classroom

A double major in finance and marketing, Lauren Bruns has a cumulative GPA of 3.58. She is a three-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and has been named to the University of Dayton’s Dean’s List five times. She completed an internship at LexisNexis during the summer of 2018 and plans to pursue a career in sales after graduation in May of 2019.

Character

Bruns has served as a two-year team captain including being part of a leadership council for communication between staff and student-athletes. She has spent countless hours mentoring, assisting, providing input, holding team meetings and working with both fellow classmates and younger classes. Bruns is in her fourth year of leadership training including Habitudes, StrengthsFinder and mental/competition training with the team’s mental training coach. Bruns has successfully balanced high-level athletics, academics, team functions and internships during her time as a student-athlete.

Community

Bruns was a two-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, volunteering with a variety of groups in the community such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand, For the Love of Children (FLOC) and Pink Ribbon Girls. She has also participated in Dayton’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk and UD’s Christmas on Campus benefiting local low-income children. UD SAAC has also “adopted” Blairwood Elementary School, and Bruns has read to the students as well as helped UD SAAC raise money for the school’s new library. Most recently, she participated in Dayton’s inaugural Student-Athlete Talent Show and Book Drive benefiting the school’s library.

Competition

Bruns leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 14th in NCAA DI with 165 kills on the season. She averages 4.23 kills/set (2nd A-10, 40th NCAA) to lead the team and has twice been named the A-10 Player of Week in 2018. Her 182.5 total points scored currently ranks 17th in NCAA DI, and her .337 hitting percentage ranks third in the A-10. She has received several all-tournament team honors this pre-conference season, including being named the MVP of the Dayton Invitational. In Dayton’s 3-2 marathon loss to then-12th ranked Washington on Sept. 7, Bruns tallied a career-high 26 kills and scored 28.5 points for the Flyers. Following the 2017 season, Bruns was named to both the A-10 All-Conference First Team and to the All-Championship Team.
