Melanie Jereb has made the Dean’s List every semester. She is an environmental science and biology major who owns a 3.98 GPA, including a perfect 4.00 GPA last spring. She was named to BIG EAST All-Academic Team after both sophomore and junior seasons, and to MVC Academic Honor Roll after her freshman campaign. In addition, after her sophomore season, Jereb won the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award.

Character

Jereb is a high-character student-athlete. She willingly accepted the challenge to move to libero (a position she had never played before) after a teammate was injured, and she went on to be BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in two of the next five weeks. She always does what is best for the team and has played nearly every position except setter and middle blocker since coming to campus.

Community

Jereb has done an impressive 175 hours of community service since coming to Creighton, which was most on the team in that time. As a freshman, she did 85 hours of community service, including more than 65 hours volunteering at Heartland Animal Shelter and also taking place with multiple clinics, the Abide Project, Night With the Jays and student move-in. As a sophomore, she did more than 50 hours of community service, including more time at the animal shelter, the Bluejay Jamboree, Abide Network, several school visits and time with the Salvation Army. As a junior, Jereb led team with 36 hours of community service, including a mission trip to Nicaragua, helping at the animal shelter, volunteering at multiple schools, helping at Welcome Week and doing projects with Project Harmony.

Competition

Jereb enters her senior season with career totals of 961 digs, 576 kills, 158 blocks and 55 aces. She also became the first freshman in program history to be named first-team All-Conference in 2012, while additionally being named to the MVC’s All-Freshman Team. Jereb was three-time MVC Freshman of the Week in 2012 and was named preseason All-BIG EAST prior to her sophomore season. Jereb has also earned a pair of BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors as a junior after a teammate’s injury moved her to libero for the first time. Jereb has also been named to the all-tournament team at two different events in her career.
