Classroom

Melanie Wade is one of the top student-athletes in the Pac-12, majoring in psychology with a minor in environmental studies. Wade was a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team selection in both 2013 and 2014, as she maintains a 3.63 grade-point average and was a Dean’s List selection most recently in spring of 2015. Beyond life as a student-athlete, Wade’s career goal is to work in sustainability.

Character

Wade is one of the best examples of a student-athlete, as she approaches every part of her life with kindness, courtesy and determination. Out of a team that features five other experienced seniors with a Final Four appearance and a Pac-12 title to their credit, she was the only unanimous selection among her teammates for leader of the 2015 squad. Wade also helped reaffirm the values of the program when a coaching change took place prior to the 2015 season.

Community

Wade and the Huskies are regular participants in Coins for Kids fundraisers and community clean-up projects around town. She has also worked Husky summer volleyball camps for the past two years.

Competition

An All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection in 2014, Wade contributes in every facet as a middle blocker, attacking, blocking and also serving and digging. She started every match over the past two seasons during which time the Huskies went 61-6 and made the 2013 Final Four and the 2014 NCAA Round of 16. As a junior, she had a career-best 1.35 kills per set while hitting a career-high .398. Wade also ranked ninth in the Pac-12 with 0.25 aces per set and was seventh in blocks at 1.11.
