Classroom

Milorad Sobot enters his senior year maintaining a solid 3.51 cumulative GPA while pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Finance. Named to the Siena College Dean’s List twice and to the President’s List once, he has been named to both the MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll in each year of eligibility despite English not being his native language (Serbian). He has worked as a telephone interviewer for the Siena Research Institute since the fall of 2015 and as a Saints Supporting Saints tutor since last fall. He has also sought out gainful employment during his time as an undergraduate, serving as an assistant coach for Global Premier FC and working at an amusement park.

Character

Thanks in large part to his great character and tremendous leadership qualities, Sobot has been elected a team captain three times. He is a member of the inaugural class of the Saints Leadership Academy, and has served as the treasurer for the International Student Association for the past two and a half years. Says Head Coach Cesar Markovic on Sobot’s character and leadership qualities, “Milorad Sobot has shown a level of seriousness, responsibility and professionalism rarely seen from a person his age. ‘Miki,’ as we call him, has been a respected three-time captain and leader on and off the field. He has truly been a shining example and a go-to guy for many of the players seeking help or advice. Miki has excelled as an athlete at an all-league level, and has been spectacular in the classroom with impressive grades. I think he has served as an exemplary scholar-athlete since setting foot at Siena.”

Community

Sobot has been an active and engaged participant in numerous Siena Athletics “Saints in the Community” initiatives throughout his four years. Along with his teammates, he has cooked meals at the local Ronald McDonald House, volunteered on several occasions with the Albany Police Athletic League (PALS) program, and served at the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, just to name a few.

Competition

A Preseason All-MAAC selection, Sobot was heralded as a 2016 second-team All-MAAC honoree. Having appeared in 50 career matches (47 starts) over his first three seasons, Sobot has been a key cog annually for a Siena defense in helping lead the program to back-to-back MAAC Semifinals appearances. He led all Siena players with 1,887 minutes logged last season and was one of only two Saints to both appear in and start all 21 matches in 2015.
