Miranda Castiglione carries a 3.60 overall grade-point average as a criminal justice major. She has been a five-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll selection and a 2015 Academic All-Horizon League selection.

Character

Castiglione was unanimously selected as the 2016 Youngstown State team captain. It marks the first time YSU has selected team captains since 2008. Head Coach Brian Campbell said of Castiglione: “Miranda is exactly what a coach wants in terms of leadership and character. She holds herself accountable to her teammates and holds them accountable to the entire team. She is always willing to help in any aspect of our program.”

Community

Castiglione has been involved in community serivce every year at Youngstown State. She has been active at the “Butter Churn” and Pumpkin Carvings at local assisted-living facilities, the Special Olympics and the Panerathon, which is a local 10K walk/run that benefits breast cancer research.

Competition

Castiglione is a two-time All-Horizon League First Team selection. She is only one of four YSU players to earn back-to-back first-team all-league honors, and she was named the 2014 Horizon League Co-Player of the Year. As of the beginning of the 2016 season, Castiglione ranked second all-time with 44 career stolen bases, needing just three more to break the record. Her career batting average ranks fourth all-time (.351), and she is sixth in runs scored (93), tied for third in career slugging percentage (.536), eighth in career home runs (17), tenth in runs batted in (80) and twelfth in career hits (155). Castiglione batted .349 with a school-record 29 stolen bases in 2015 and hit .395 with 10 home runs and set the school record with 43 runs scored.
