Westby completed externships with Morgan Stanley Merchant Banking and Real Estate Investing in New York, N.Y. and Invemed Associates in New York, N.Y. He is a member of the Oaks Leadership Academy and the Wall Street Society House. Westby is a dean’s list selection with a 3.2 Cumulative GPA. He is a member of the Investment Club, participating in weekly meetings that include buy/sell recommendations for the club’s approximately $500,000 portfolio, market updates and alumni guest speakers from the finance industry.

Character

Westby was selected as a team captain for his senior season. His coach describes him as being a strong leader on and off the field, especially for a young team, and that he serves as a positive role model and a true ambassador for the program. Westby has secured a post-graduate job with Jefferies Global Investment Banking in New York, N.Y., but continues to excel in the classroom and as a captain and teammate. He is present in all disciplinary decisions as a captain as he’s trusted with making decisions that affect the program as a whole. Westby boasts excellent communication skills with his coaches and teammates, which he attributes to his work with the Oaks Leadership Academy. He was featured in an interview during a men’s basketball game this winter, shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaKNolh8Bkg.

Community

Westby has worked with the HEADstrong Foundation, spending three weeks at their headquarters in Holmes, Pa. working with the Colleluori family. He helped them with day-to-day activities and worked with families housed at the facility that have been impacted by cancer. Accompanied by 15 of his classmates, Westby participated on a community service trip to Costa Rica during the summer before his senior year of high school. They played soccer with the children, most between the ages of 10 and 15, and helped to build a playground at their school.

Competition

Prior to this season, Westby had participated in all but one game for Lafayette over three seasons in the midfield, starting 28. He had scored 32 goals and tallied 15 assists for 47 career points. He finished with 14 goals last season, the most of his career and good enough for fourth on the team. Westby had recorded 32 career ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers prior to this season, and he recorded a pair of hat tricks in his junior season, including three goals against Loyola on March 21 and another trio against Holy Cross on April 4.
