Nic Ready is a management major at the Academy, holding a 3.28 cumulative GPA. He is a two-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree (2017-18). After graduation, Ready will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and will begin his assignment as a logistics officer.

Character

Ready has shown many signs of leadership as a cadet at the Academy. Within his squadron, he has served as a Chief Clerk and an Operations NCO, ensuring that operations within his squadron run smoothly, while also serving as a leader and mentor to underclass cadets. He is a flight commander, serving as the leader of his aerial squadron, ensuring commonality of performance characteristics while in flight. Ready is a member of the Academy’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), helping to provide insight on the cadet-athlete experience and offer input on issues that are unique to cadet-athletes. Finally, Ready is a Safehaven Sexual Assault Program representative.

Community

In his time in Colorado, Ready has been thoroughly involved in the community through Air Force baseball and individually. Ready has volunteered his time with local little leagues, helping coach the area youth on weeknights. He has also volunteered his time at local vet hospitals, engaging them in activities such as fishing to help them in a time of need. Ready has worked with Colorado Publishing House to launch a free newspaper to Southeast Colorado Springs to reach an underprivileged and new community. This involved community outreach through community meetings and face-to-face interaction in the Southeast area. With the baseball team, Ready has been involved in such projects as Jacklyn’s Friends, “adopting” a child with cancer named Joshua, and helping him through the tough time by bringing him to the field and playing sports with him. He has also visited local hospitals and veteran homes with the team to spend time with residents and lift their spirits.

Competition

Ready has been a force to be reckoned with since his freshman season at the Academy. Ready is a three-time All-Conference honoree (first team 2018, second team 2017, third team 2016), a two-time Preseason All-American (2018-19), a 2016 Freshman All-American and a 2018 third-team All-American. He had a banner junior season during which he led the Mountain West Conference with 20 home runs and 74 RBIs. The Dallas, Texas, native batted .341 on the year, while also recording a team-best 30 game hitting streak and 38-game reached-base streak. He ranked first in the MW in seven categories overall. Nationally, Ready was seventh in the country in home runs, eighth in RBIs and tenth in both slugging (.699) and total bases (160).

This past summer, Ready won the College Home Run Derby with an event record 55 dingers, including 21 in the championship round. Entering his senior season, Ready owned a career slash line of .337/.370/.595 including 235 hits, 57 doubles, 37 homers and 180 RBIs. Ready is currently on pace to set career school records in games played, at bats, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and total bases.
