Sara Rishell

Classroom

Currently boasts a 3.34 GPA during her time at UAB. She holds a 3.36 GPA overall, which includes two years at American University. Rishell was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a junior. Also a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection as a freshman.

Character

Sara Rishell is one of the senior leaders for the 2014 UAB volleyball team. She always has a positive attitude and encourages the newcomers everyday at practice.

Community

Participated in several community service activities during her year at UAB. She helped with different projects at the Central Park Recreation Center as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, which included painting fences, walls, weight room, cleaning various room, etc. She also read to kids at the Leeds Elementary School “Race to Literacy Event.” With the team, helped out at the Fare Walk for Food Allergy event that raises awareness for food allergies.

Competition

One of 36 players selected for the U.S. Collegiate National Team this summer. Named to the Preseason All-C-USA Team. Made an impact with the UAB volleyball team right away. She led the Blazers in kills during the 2013 season, with 387 kills for an average of 3.12 kills per set. Also led the team in attack percentage (.350) and blocks (142 total, 1.15 b/s). Had 115 block assists, which ranks sixth in school history for a single season. Earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors. At American, an AVCA All-Region honorable mention selection and Patriot League Rookie of the Year as a freshman. Was an All-Patriot League First Team selection and Patriot League Touranment MVP as a freshman.
