Classroom

Savannah Jo Dorsey is a biological sciences major who sports a 3.431 GPA and plans on attending medical school after graduation. Dorsey is a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree. She also made the dean’s list during the fall of 2016 semester and has been a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll multiple times. She was also named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week during the 2014 season.

Character

Throughout her career, Dorsey has fought her way through adversity. After a successful 2014 season in which Dorsey led Ohio to a MAC Championship and tossed a perfect game while setting the school record in strikeouts, Dorsey was unable to compete in 2015 after a back injury forced her to take a medical redact. While unable to play, Dorsey was always present in the weight room, at practice and during games. She was her team’s No. 1 fan, always teaching the younger players and cheering them on. Dorsey returned to the circle in 2016 with a vengeance, while struggling with pain throughout the season. Even when she didn’t feel her best, Dorsey showed leadership, including helping the younger pitchers get ready to fill her roll when she was unable to participate in practice or a game. Dorsey’s leadership and enthusiasm helped the Bobcats to 37 wins, the most in program history.

Community

Dorsey not only excels in the classroom and on the field, but she also helps out in her community. Dorsey is a member of Athletes in Action and also holds a 21st Century Leadership Certificate. She served as a volunteer veterinarian assistant at Athens Veterinary Clinic and as a big sister Volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, where each year she organizes multiple events that allow the entire Ohio softball team to come and interact with kids by doing arts and crafts and other activities.

Competition

Dorsey entered her final season in a Bobcat uniform as one of the most decorated pitchers on Bobcat history. Dorsey is the program leader in wins (65), appearances (158), innings pitched (705.4), strikeouts (834), complete games (70) and shutouts (18). During the 2016 season, Dorsey had a recorded-setting year. Along with leading the nation in strikeouts, her 336 were a program record for the most in a season. Dorsey always steps up big for the Bobcats, strikings out a career-high 16 batters against Indiana. She also threw a one-hit shutout of then 12th-ranked Kentucky, helping lead Ohio to a 1-0 eight-inning victory. Along with her stellar 2016 season, overall Dorsey has been named the 2016 MAC Pitcher of the Year and to the 2016 NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team. She was named first-team All-MAC in 2016 and second-team All-MAC in 2014. She is a ten-time MAC East Pitcher of the Week honoree, a two-time member of the MAC All-Tournament Team and the 2014 MAC Tournament MVP. She was also named to the MAC All Freshman Team in 2013.
