King has accumulated a current GPA of 3.633 as a finance major and is scheduled to graduate after the fall semester. He has twice earned a perfect 4.0 during a semester and has won semester honors from the university three times as he also earned a 3.8 in the Fall 2006 semester. In his final season King has recently been named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic First Team All District II.

Character

King is in his second year as team captain, voted upon by his teammates. He won the team’s Peter Lowery Award, presented to the team member who exemplifies academic excellence, leadership and distinguished citizenship on campus.

Community

King has been involved in numerous activities since arriving on campus including All-Star Day 2007 in Potomac, Maryland, when he and others volunteered for a free soccer clinic for 750 area children. He and his teammates donated money to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and he has also participated in the Relay For Life. He has participated in National Student-Athlete Day, where a local middle school is invited to campus where he gave a tour, ate lunch with the children, and played games with them in the gym.

Competition

King has not missed a game in a Maryland uniform, starting all 72 games the Terrapins have played since 2004. Entering his senior campaign, his 21 career assists ranked ninth all-time at Maryland, while his 29 goals were just outside the top 10. His 79 points put him at eighth on the career list. In his sophomore season, King scored 15 times and assisted others eight times. His goal number is tied for 10th all-time in a single season while his 38 points is tied for eighth. He was named to the 2006 All-ACC and All-NSCAA South Atlantic Second Team and was a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy.
