Classroom

Balcer is majoring in biology/physiology while minoring in chemistry and spanish.  She finished the year with a GPA of 3.614.  After graduating from Long Beach State, Balcer plans on going to medical school.

Character

Balcer was team captain at her high school in Tucson, Ariz. and is currently captain of the women’s soccer team at Long Beach State.  Balcer served as executive assistant on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at LBSU, NCAA Apple Conference Representative and Committee member.  Balcer was selected to the President’s List in 2009 and 2010 and the Dean’s List in 2010 and 2011.

Community

In the community, Balcer has volunteered at The Thomas House Temporary Shelter and was a volunteer mentor at Kettering Elementary School in Long Beach.  She has also served as a lifeguard and swim instructor during the summer for young children attending the Long Beach State 49er Camp and Tucson Country Day School.  Balcer has also served as a counselor/instructor for the Beach Club Soccer Camp and Arizona Rush Soccer Club.

Competition

Balcer helped Long Beach State capture back-to-back Big West Conference Tournament Championships where she was named the 2011 Big West Tournament MVP.  Balcer led the 49ers to the their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years and helped LBSU advance to the 2011 NCAA Elite Eight.  She was named NSCAA Scholar All-American, First Team All-Region and Scholar All-Region in 2011.  Balcer was named to the 2011 NCAA All-West Region Team and the 2011 Big West Academic All-Conference and First Team All-Big West.  She was also selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN All-Academic District 8 Third Team in 2010.  Balcer was tabbed second team All-Big West in 2010, while being recognized as LBSU Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and Freshman Player of the Year in 2009.
