Classroom
Wood maintains a 3.49 GPA as a double major in international business. He is a three-time Michigan Athletic Academic Award winner honoree and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Character
Wood earned the Michigan Men’s soccer “Team Player” award in 2009 as voted on by his teammates for being willing to do anything and everything to help his team succeed both on and off the soccer pitch. He is a captain for the 2010 season. Wood also has served as vice president of Michigan’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and will be the president for the 2010-11 academic year. In addition, Wood is on the Executive Committee for Michigan’s Mock Rock (an annual variety show put on by the U-M student-athletes to raise money for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and other philanthropic endeavors in the Ann Arbor community), in 2009-10 he helped raise $80,000 dollars. This past summer Wood organized the First Annual Jonas Saunders Memorial Golf Outing, in honor of a former Michigan club soccer player. The proceeds went to an education fund for Saunders’ four young children.
Community
Wood volunteers with several outreach programs, including weekly visits to a children’s hospital, where he does arts and crafts and signs autographs. Wood has also worked with several youth soccer programs. He’s a head coach with TOPSoccer, where he teaches kids who have varying types of varying mental or physical handicaps, Ann Arbor Rec and Ed Youth Soccer, where he coaches a U10 boys team, and Ypsilanti Youth Soccer, where he coaches underprivileged kids with the goal of instilling important characteristics of work-ethic, discipline and passion as well as having fun.
Competition
As a junior, Wood scored his first career goal and also notched his first two assists. Wood has played in 23 career games at Michigan.
