She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Student-Athlete Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and has earned seven dean’s list honors. She is in the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society and the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, and she has had problems published in the College Mathematics Journal and Mathematical Horizons.

Character

Walkden’s head coach, Paige Smith, had the following to say of her character: “We don’t have captains, but if we did, she would be it. When Alex isn’t helping teammates through the physical and mental challenges of the game, she’s tutoring them in math or mentoring them about handling the demands of being a student-athlete. She’s one of the first to volunteer for community service events and can often be found giving softball lessons to youth at local parks. Alex coaches a youth team in Texas over the summer in order to grow the game and, in doing so, spreads her fantastic influence as a strong athlete with high academic standards to impressionable little girls. I can’t say enough about the character of Alexis Walkden. She is truly one of a kind.”

Community

Walkden is an Equescene volunteer, partnering with a program that helps special-needs children experience the benefits of equine therapy, including leading horses, creating activies and all-around care of animals. She is a trained facilitator for the One Love Foundation, raising awareness about domestic abuse. She participated in Habitat for Humanity, and she is a yearly participant in America’s Grow a Row, a program that picks vegetables for families and combats hunger in America.

Competition

In 2017, Walkden was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year. She is a three-time all-conference player (first-team All-BIG EAST 2017, first-team All-ECAC 2017 and second-team All-BIG EAST 2016) as well as the 2015 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year. She was a first-team ECAC All-Star in 2015 and a second-team NFCA All-District selection in 2017. As of nomination time, she ranks in the top five in program history in home runs (41), walks (91), RBIs (128) and runs scored (117). She holds a career slash line of .366/.480/.732 in 155 games.
