Classroom

Andrew Beckwith carries a 3.1 cumulative GPA (through Dec. 2016). He has earned Dean’s List honors once (Spring 2015) and was on the Big South’s Presidential Honor Roll twice (2014-15 and 2015-16) for having at least a 3.0 GPA for each academic year.

Character

To quote Head Coach Gary Gilmore, “He’s been unbelievable. He’s a fantastic competitor.” The character he showed in the College World Series was the difference in the Chanticleers winning the national championship, throwing two complete games victories (Florida and TCU) before throwing 6.2 in the championship win over Arizona. However, that was just a taste of what his teammates already knew. Anthony Marks, CCU spark-plug for three seasons said of Beckwith, “Honestly you guys are just seeing this, but we’ve been watching him do this for three years now.”

Community

Beckwith is active in All 4 Paws animal rescue and the Miracle League, which is a baseball league in Myrtle Beach that allows individuals with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities. He additionally participated when CCU student-athletes read with students at a local elementary school.

Competition

Players don’t earn accolades he has received—like TD Club of Columbus National Male Athlete of the Year, All-American, 2015-16 Big South Male Athlete of the Year and 2016 College World Series MVP—unless they are competitors who thrive in pressure situations. Beckwith entered his senior season with a 2.12 career ERA, which is on pace to be a CCU Division I record. As a freshman, he set a CCU Division I record with a 1.33 ERA. Last season he led the NCAA in wins with 15 (a CCU record) and posted a 1.85 ERA. Again, to quote Marks, “This man does this night-in and night-out, every time he gets the rock, whether he’s a starter or whether he’s coming out of the bullpen.”
