Angela Tincher

Classroom

Angela carries a 3.84 cumulative GPA in finance. She is a two-time ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American, as voted on by CoSIDA (2nd team in 2006, 1st team in 2007). Will graduate in May and enroll at Tech to get her MBA starting in the fall of 2008. The Academic All-American of the Year runner-up in 2007. Has been on the ACC Academic honor roll all three years.

Character

A team captain who is the face of Virginia Tech softball. Organized several senior practices early in this preseason, getting the team together without coaches for a Sunday workout and conditioning. Always early for interview requests from the SID. A local product who has been in the spotlight for many years, always stops to sign autographs, take pictures or do interviews. Should graduate magna cum laude this spring.

Community

An active participant in “Hokies With Heart” which is Tech’s community outreach program. Has participated in reading and autograph nights at local elementary schools. Volunteered at the Montgomery County Christmas Store. Gives pitching lessons to local youth. Team has been partnered in the past with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and this year is partnered with a local elementary school. Has hosted local kids at games, where they get to run the bases afterwards and the team signs autographs and poses for pictures.

Competition

A two-time All-American (first team in 2007, 2nd team in 2006). Led the nation in ERA in 2007 with a 0.56 ERA, going 38-7. Was second in the nation in strikeouts in 2007 (617). Is one of six NCAA D-1 pitchers ever to eclipse 1,400 strikeouts in her career. Three-time all-region. Three-time all-state. Two-time ACC Pitcher of the Year. Also earned league Player of the Year honors in 2006, a league first. Holds the school and ACC record for career strikeouts (1,470). Two-time national player of the week. A two-time finalist for the USA Softball National Player of the Year. Likely to be one of the top three draft picks in the upcoming NPF Draft.
