Classroom

Cahn, a nutrition major with a concentration in nutrition science and a minor in biology, plans to pursue a teaching credential following graduation in 2011. She would like to pursue a career as either a middle or high school science teacher or in the nutritional science research field with a food company or private business. Cahn was on the Dean’s List in 2008.

Character

“I always try and help my teammates out by being someone they can talk to and being a responsible leader of our team,” Cahn said.

Community

For the past three years, Cahn has been involved with Cal Poly’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, through which she volunteers time at schools and charity drives and, through an athletic department-sponsored coin drive, helped raise $2,687.33 for the Sexual Assault and Rape Prevention Center of San Luis Obispo. She has served as the student representative on the hiring committee to select the athletic department’s academic advisor and she has also served as Cal Poly’s mascot at select home games for other sports.

Competition

After her junior season, Cahn was named the 2010 Big West Field Player of the Year and to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-West Region second team after leading the conference with a .393 batting average and a .626 slugging percentage and setting new Cal Poly program single-year records for on-base percentage (.586) and walks (45). She also paced Cal Poly last year with 24 RBI, six multi-RBI games and 12 multi-hit games. Cahn ranked seventh in the nation with 0.96 walks per game and struck out just 14 times in 157 plate appearances. As a pitcher in 2010, she led all Big West players in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.3-to-1), ranked second in ERA (2.28), sixth in opposing batting average (.253) and seventh in strikeouts (100).
