In addition to her athletic prowess, Aubrey Leach is also an intelligent and dedicated student. She currently boasts a 3.71 GPA while pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in geology. Upon graduation, Leach has plans to attend law school. Leach truly exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete at the University of Tennessee. She is hard-working, responsible and shows great initiative and diligence. Her days are busy, but she successfully balances the often hectic and unpredictable schedule that comes with being a student-athlete. This is not an easy task, and Leach always handles herself with grace.

Character

Leach works hard at every aspect of her life every day and is admired for it, not just by the coaching staff, but also by her peers. It’s not easy to play a sport at the collegiate level and finish an undergraduate degree with a minor, but for Leach it is, and she’s excelling. She comes to the field and works just as hard at softball as she does in the classroom. She works hard to try to be a complete, well-rounded person, and that’s what draws admiration. That’s why her teammates look to her as a leader. Leach has earned their respect through hard work and dedication. She embodies what it means to be a Volunteer, providing a mix of leadership and service that makes everyone around her better for it.

Community

The ways in which Leach lives and leads each day can only be defined in one way: true servant-leadership. She is a young woman who acts in congruence with her values, empowers those around her and who consistently searches for ways to engage with her community beyond the softball field. Her undying passion for the Volunteer spirit is evident in each interaction she has whether it be with her teammates, her VOLeaders Academy classmates or youth in Vietnam. What a great achievement it is when one is not only respected for how they perform in sport, but even more so for how they work to cultivate positive change in their community. Leach’s willingness and desire to serve those around her partnered with a unique ability to develop genuine connection allows her to truly impact the Tennessee community and beyond as a leader, but first as a servant to others.

Competition

Leach embodies the type of competitor one wants on their team. Her determination and will to get better contributed to her leading the nation in runs scored (80) and the SEC in batting average (.441) last season. The Texas native’s 80 runs scored through 61 games set Tennessee’s single-season mark. Leach was selected to the NFCA Division I All-American First Team, NFCA All-Region First Team and the All-SEC First Team for her efforts in 2018. To cap her successful junior campaign, she was also a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top-25 Finalist.
