Hackenberg earned his public relations degree in December of 2020. Throughout his career, he has earned four Academic All-Big Ten selections and is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

He is currently working on his graduate certificate in business management foundations.

Character

Hackenberg is a team captain for Penn State. He holds himself in the highest character and attempts to hold his teammates in that same regard. Hackenberg continues to work hard to grow team culture and strive towards a common goal of championship behavior on and off the field of play

He is also a member of Penn State’s Athletic Director’s Leadership Institute.

Community

Hackenberg has been a very important of the community while at Penn State. He always makes sure to take the time postgame to sign autographs and interact with the fans, realizing that he is a role model and fans contribute to success.

He has also volunteered as a soccer summer camp staff member, helping instruct campers on soccer related activities while also ensuring they have an enjoyable experience overall.

Competition

Contributing valuable minutes for the Nittany Lions, Hackenberg has played in 45 career games so far. He has helped pitch 12 shutouts as a member of the backline.

For his efforts during the 2019 season, Hackenberg was named an All-Big Ten first team member and United Soccer Coaches All-North Region third team selection.

Hackenberg helped return Penn State to the national spotlight with their first trip to the NCAA tournament, as well as a national ranking. He has also been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week two times in his career.
