Classroom

Paul is an excellent student, currently owning a cumulative GPA of 3.12. He has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors the last two seasons, the only current member of the Illini roster to be honored multiple times. Paul will finish his coursework in recreation, sport and tourism this fall, and will serve an internship during the spring semester to earn his degree.

Character

Paul is an outstanding person who represents the best in a student-athlete, taking care of business both on and off the court. He does well in school and is a tremendous role model for young kids as well as his current teammates and fellow student-athletes. Paul has a very outgoing personality and has developed a great fan following by showing off his fun side through social media, interacting with the fans on twitter and through his youtube videos.

Community

Paul participates in community service events each year, such as visits to the pediatric ward at Carle Hospital in Champaign, reading to children and area elementary schools and hosting special spectators at Illini sporting events. Paul served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a group made up of current University of Illinois athletes across all sports that plans community service events, fundraising projects and fan engagement activities throughout the year. Paul also served as the official host and emcee of Jock Jams, a talent and variety show put on Illini athletes that raised money for local charities.

Competition

Paul earned third-team All-Big Ten honors and NABC second-team All-District 7 accolades last year. He led the Illini in scoring with an average of 14.7 points, and was third in the Big Ten in scoring during conference play at 17.7 ppg. Paul also led team in assists (2.9 apg) and steals (1.7 spg) and was second in rebounding at 4.7 rpg. He had seven 20-point games on the season and was the Illini’s leading scorer in 11 contests. Paul was named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week and Big Ten Player of the Week following his record-setting 43-point performance vs. Ohio State on Jan. 10, 2012. He scored a career-high 43 points against the Buckeyes, the third-highest single-game point total in school history and tied for the fifth-highest point total in the NCAA during the season. He tied the Illinois school record for 3-pointers, making eight against the Buckeyes. Paul scored his 1,000th career point against Iowa on Feb. 26, 2012 and enters his senior season ranked 43rd on the Illini all-time scoring list with 1,056 points.
