Classroom

Richards has a 3.73 GPA and has made the Dean’s List every quarter. He is a first-team Pac-10 All-Academic, First-Team Academic All-District VIII, Third-Team ESPN Academic All-American, NSCAA Scholar All-West Region, First-Team NSCAA Scholar All-American all in his junior year. Also earned All-Pac-10 Academic honors his sophomore season. He studied in Ecuador in the spring of 2011.

Character

Assistant coach Brandon Prideaux: “As a member of the University of Washington Men’s Soccer team, Brent has demonstrated outstanding achievement in all facets of his life.  Most importantly Brent has made a positive impact on those around him and is a joy to be around. In the classroom, Brent has a 3.72 GPA while studying economics.  He has been an academic leader on our team since the day he arrived on campus.  In addition to his success in school, Brent has several achievements on the soccer field: team captain both in 2010 and 2011,  2010 All- Pac 10 1st Team, 2010 First-Team NSCAA Scholar All-American, 2009 All Pac 10 2nd Team, 2008 All Pac 10 Honorable Mention and 2010 Team Offensive MVP. Richards has also showed leadership and the willingness to help others in need as evidenced by the volunteer actions below.

Community

Richards has also showed leadership and the willingness to help others in need.  Here is a list to demonstrate his giving nature:
•  Earthcorps at Ellis Pond: Habitat restoration and planting trees
•  Tree Campus USA (Arbor Day Foundation): Planting trees on UW’s campus
•  El Hogar Corazón de María: An elderly peoples’ home with over 200 residents in Quito, Ecuador
•  Washington Student-Athletic Advisory Council (WSAAC): Raised funds at UW athletic events for Seattle Public Schools

Competition

As a junior, Richards was voted the Team Offensive MVP and was named honorable Mention on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Season. He was ranked No. 4 in the Pac-10 by TopDrawerSoccer and No. 33 on their top 100 upperclassmen list. He was a first-team All-Pac-10. In the final NCAA rankings, he was 58th in points per game (1.17), 64th in goals per game (0.44) and total goals (8), 67th in toal points (21) and 134th in total assists (5). In the Pac-10 rankings for all games, Richards ranked first in shots per game (3.72), second in shots (67), goals and game-winning goals (3), third in points per game and goals per game, fourth in points and eighth in assists and assists per game (0.28). As a sophomore, Richards earned Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors. He led the team in points, goals and assists after leading the squad in goals his first year. As a freshman, he was named to All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention team.
