Caden O’Brien

O’Brien has earned multiple academic awards while he purses a degree in exercise and sport science at North Carolina.

He was named the 2021-22 AD Scholar Athlete of the Year and is both a three-time Dean’s List and four-time ACC Honor Roll selection.


O’Brien leads by example and is extremely important to the Tar Heels. He is very resilient, overcoming shoulder surgery and making himself a better pitcher since.


At North Carolina, O’Brien has volunteered with multiple programs in the community. He has been involved with the Miracle League, UNC Children’s Hospital, Adopt a Family, and also shaved his head for cancer awareness.

O’Brien also traveled to the Dominican Republic and helped put on a baseball clinic in addition to serving food.


O’Brien led the Tar Heels in games finished (9) and placed second in wins and saves last season.

In his first season, O’Brien helped North Carolina reach the 2018 CWS. He became the ninth pitcher in program history to win at least seven decisions without a loss in a single season and was named a second team Freshman All-American by D1 Baseball.

For his career, O’Brien has posted an 11-3 record and struck out 139 batters in 103.2 innings. He has also held opponents to a .216 batting average.
