Caitlin Attfield epitomizes what it means to be an all-around student-athlete. The senior is on pace to graduate with her kinesiology/exercise science degree from UAB. With a cumulative GPA of 3.43, Attfield has received numerous academic honors throughout her career at UAB. She has been recognized as a two-time Commissioner’s Honor Roll member and C-USA All-Academic Team honoree in 2014 and 2015.

Character

Attfield is one of the undisputed leaders of the softball team and is serving as the team’s captain for her senior season. She has evolved into a shining example of a leader for the softball program from academic success to community service and etching her name as one of the most prolific players ever to wear the Green and Gold.

Community

Giving back to the city of Birmingham is an important aspect of UAB softball. Attfield and her teammates have been involved in community service efforts throughout the city. She is involved with Miracle League, an organization that allows physically and mentally disabled children to participate in an organization youth baseball league. With Habitat for Humanity, Attfield along with her teammates helped build houses for those in need in the Magic City. Attfield also helped box meals for Feed My Starving Children, an organization than sends meals to malnourished children from around the globe. Attfield and her teammates packed 31 boxes, equaling over 1,100 meals for those in need. With the team’s contributions, UAB softball has volunteered more community service time than any other softball program via the Helper Helper application.

Competition

A three-year starter, Attfield is a three-time all-conference selection and has been named to the NFCA All-Region First Team twice. She earned 2013 All-Freshman and Freshman of the Year honors and is the reigning 2015 C-USA Player of the Year, the first Blazer to win that honor. She has helped the Blazers notched 30 or more wins during each of her first three seasons, including winning the 2013 C-USA regular-season title her freshman season. Attfield has played in two NCAA Regionals, helping UAB claim its first Regional victory in 2013. She holds the school records for batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.465), hits (264), runs scored (128) and assists (396), while holding the single-season records for average (.473), total bases (120), on-base percentage (.511) and hits (88).
