Charlie Hayes is a two-time member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He earned MAAC Academic Honor Roll and MAAC All-Academic Team honors as a junior.

Character

Hayes is a two-time team captain who not only leads the defense, but also leads his teammates on and off the field. He won the Larry Bleach Award as a junior, given to a male and female student-athlete who sets the strength and conditioning standards for other student-athletes to follow. He is recognized as one of the top leaders in a sport at Detroit Mercy.

Community

Hayes has participated in a number of community service projects with the team and with SAAC. He helped with freshmen move in day, participated in Angels’ Place Family Fun Day and helped with a canned food drive to benefit Gleaners Food Bank.

Competition

Hayes earned All-MAAC Second Team honors as a junior and was the MAAC Preseason Short Stick Midfielder selection. He played in all 16 games last season and led the team with a career-high 21 caused turnovers, while ranking second on the team with a career-best 42 ground balls. He tied for second in the MAAC and 40th nationally with 1.31 caused turnovers per game. He scored a career-best five goals and six points on only 20 shots with 11 on-net for a .550 shots on goal percentage. He also tallied a career-high five caused turnovers, picked up five ground balls and scored a goal at Quinnipiac. Those five turnovers were tied for the third-most caused turnovers in a game in NCAA Division I and the most of any defensive midfielder in the country. His 36 caused turnovers are sixth in school history.
