Classroom

Christen Press has a cumulative grade point average of 3.61 through spring of 2010. She was a member of the 2009 NSCAA/adidas Women’s College Scholar All-America first team, 2009 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 second team, 2009 Pac-10 All-Academic second team and 2008 Pac-10 All-Academic second team. She is on track to graduate in the spring of 2011. Press won the Stanford Dean’s Award for academic excellence in 2009 and was on Stanford’s Honor Roll in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She hopes to pursue a career in sports marketing.

Character

In summer of 2010, Press volunteered to train young soccer players in the Palos Verdes Estates (Calif.) community and at the West Coast Futbol Club. Beginning in January 2010, she studied abroad for three months in Madrid, Spain, as a participant in the Bing Overseas Studies Program and lived with a Spanish-only speaking family. While there, she tutored two Spanish children in English.

Community

She has fed the homeless several times in San Francisco with her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. For the past three years, Press helped organize the Theta Breakers Run for Children, a charity event that raises money for Child Advocates of Silicon Valley. She also volunteered at a Right To Play event in the spring of 2010. Right To Play is an organization that uses sports to help disadvantaged children.

Competition

A candidate on the 2010 Hermann Trophy watch list, Press helped lead Stanford to the NCAA College Cup the past two years. She scored the winning goal in overtime to give Stanford a 2-1 victory over UCLA in the 2009 NCAA College Cup semifinals. She was selected as the 2009 National co-Player of the Year by Top Drawer Soccer. She tied for the national lead in assists (16) in 2009 and was a member of the 2009 NSCAA/adidas All-America second team, the 2009 Soccer America MVPs first team, the 2009 Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Season, the 2009 NCAA College Cup All-Tournament team, the 2009 NSCAA All-West Region first team and the 2009 All-Pac-10 first team. Press broke Stanford season records for assists and shots in 2009. She was a 2009 Hermann Trophy semifinalist. As a sophomore, she garnered the following honors: 2008 Top Drawer Soccer second team All-America, 2008 NCAA College Cup All-Tournament team, 2008 NSCAA All-West Region second team and 2008 All-Pac-10 second team.
