Classroom

Slaybaugh has a 4.00 GPA and will earn his B.S. in May 2013. He is a member of the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team, the CoSIDA All-Academic District 8 First Team, twice, the All-Pac-12 Academic First Team, twice, the WSU President’s Honor Roll, seven times, the WSU Athletics All-Academic Team, four times and as a 2012 Cougar Academic Top 50 Scholar Athlete. He wants to play professional baseball if the opportunity presents itself, if not, pursuing a career as a doctor is the plan.

Character

Slaybaugh did not receive a scholarship offer from a Division I school. He choose to come to Washington State as a walk-on and earned a scholarship.

Community

As a part of the Coug Pals program from 2011 through 2013, Slaubaugh wrote to elementary school students in a bi-weekly literacy program, volunteered at Sunnyside Family Night where he coordinated games and activities for elementary school students, at Butch’s Bash (2010-12) he was a volunteer for the community children’s carnival.

Competition

Slaybaugh was a 2013 All-Pac-12 honorable mention honoree. He led the team in batting average (.317), runs (32) and stolen bases (12) and threw out 44 percent of runners trying to steal in 2012 and 37 percent in his career. Both marks rank first in WSU history over the last quarter century.
