Classroom

Shepherd holds a 3.66 GPA while majoring in Financial Economics and will receive a certificate in Management Science. She also has a perfect 4.0 GPA in her major. A two-time CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team selection in 2006-07. She is expected to graduate in May 2008 and has accepted a job with Morgan Stanley in the operations department upon graduation. She would also like to pursue her MBA. Was a Kelly Financial Group Scholarship recipient selected from all economics majors for overall GPA, economics GPA and extracurricular activities. She is a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international economics honor society, a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Golden Key Society and has been a member of the 3.0 Club for Varsity Athletes since 2004. Was on the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2006 and 2007.

Character

Has been named team captain for the 2007-08 season and selected to represent the softball team at UMBC’s Hall of Fame induction banquet in 2005 and 2008. Has served as a Student Athlete-Advisory Council (SAAC) representative to the softball team since 2005 and is a 2007 Retriever Club Scholarship recipient.

Community

Shepherd raised money with the softball team for Hurricane Katrina victims by selling lemonade and collecting donations in the campus student union. She has also participated in various fundraisers through UMBC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

Competition

A career .326 hitter with 190 hits, 130 runs, 40 doubles, 19 home runs and 103 RBI she has started all 173 games in her career. Has posted a career .506 slugging percentage with 295 total bases and a career .374 on-base percentage. Has stolen 40 bases in 47 attempts. Ranks among UMBC’s career leaders in doubles (2nd), runs (5th), extra-base hits (5th), home runs (T-6th), RBI (8th), at-bats (9th) and stolen bases (T-9th). A middle infielder who bats at the top of the order. She led UMBC to the America East Tournament in 2006 and 2007 and to the conference title game in 2007. Led UMBC with 55 hits and 46 runs in 2007 and broke the school single-season doubles record with 19. Ranked fourth in the country in doubles per game and 39th in runs per game in 2007 and led the America East in doubles, runs scored and at-bats as a junior. A 2006 America East All-Conference Second Team selection and a 2005 All-Rookie Team member in 2005 who put together a 20-game hitting streak in 2006, the third-longest in school history. Became just the third Retriever freshman ever to amass 60 or more hits in her rookie season. Named America East Co-Rookie of the Week in May 2005.
