Classroom

A sport management major, Dorian Shaw has earned the prestigious U-M Athletic Academic Award in each of her three years and garnered University Honors as a freshman. She is set to graduate in 2011 and is looking for a job in sport administration.

Character

Shaw currently serves as vice president for Michigan’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She has been involved in the organization and fundraising efforts for Michigan’s annual Mock Rock talent show, has also participated in Michigan’s Leaders for Life and Leadership Academy programs and was voted a 2011 captain by her teammates and has been a vocal leader throughout her U-M career.

Community

Alongside her teammates, Shaw has been involved with the American Cancer Society through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. They have raised more than $65,000 over the four-year stretch. Shaw participated in the inaugural Michigan Women’s Softball Academy in 2010, with proceeds also benefitting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Shaw has also been active in the Michigan From the Heart organization, making visits to young patients at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Competition

Shaw claimed NFCA All-America second team honors last season after boasting career highs in every offensive category, including batting average (.362), runs (41), runs batted in (60) and slugging percentage (.855). She claimed a share of Michigan’s single-season home run record with 21 and with 46 career homers sits second on the career record list. Shaw is a two-time All-Big Ten selection, earning unanimous first team honors as a freshman (2008). Over her first three seasons, the Wolverines have captured three straight Big Ten trophies and earned a berth in the 2009 Women’s College World Series.
